ANTI-FGM Project

The programme is based on the social convention theory. The major focus is to use an Strengthened implementation of legislative frameworks at county levels with the following expected outputs: - Increased knowledge of benefits of abandonment of FGM/C and related adverse gender norms in the population. -Increased accessibility, acceptability and quality of relevant prevention, protection and care services addressing FGM/C. -Strengthened dissemination, appropriation and visibility of evidence-based programme research and learning generated by the Joint Programme among others.

Girl Child Empowerment (Anti-FGM)

The program main development goal is to contribute to the elimination of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the counties of Migori, Kisii and Nyamira Counties. The project contributes to elimination of FGM among the practicing communities through promotion of girl child education, Girl child empowerment (Alternative Right of Passage (AROP) and building the capacity of the local structures in-order to respond to gender issues.

Child Education Support and Development Project (CESaD)

The Child Education Support and Development (CESaD) project works with Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), the caregivers and the schools to remove the hurdles that OVC face in accessing education. The support is provided through school fees, empowerment of caregiver’s, support in adult literacy and support in income generating projects. This is the last year of support by Lakermissionen and the need is still BIG.

Disaster Risk Reduction Project

DRR aims to build the capacity of vulnerable households to cope with drought and adapt to long-term changes in the local climate by addressing the major causes of food insecurity in the district (as identified by the community). To address the need for water for agricultural purposes and improve access to nutritious food and income ADRA Kenya is pilotin two irrigated horticulture gardens by piping water from an existing borehole and providing training in horticulture, health and nutrition, with the intention to scale up in future years. ADRA Kenya is also training targeted households in non-rain dependent farming, including drought tolerant crops and multi-storey gardens. ADRA Kenya is also training farmers in environmental conservation and implementing a tree planting initiative.

Drought Resilience Building Project

This project aims at mitigating the impact of the drought and improving the vulnerable livelihoods of the local community by implementing WASH and food security related project. The project is establishing water structures, facilitating the formation of water management committees, and building their capacity to manage and maintain the water structures. Communities are also being trained on hygiene and sanitation through community health workers. To improve on food security the communities are being supported with vegetable seeds and planting materials, and their capacity in agricultural technologies is being enhanced.
